I-cord Embellishment (Optional)

My I-cord is made of a scrap, about 30 feet long, of SWTC’s Terra yarn (which is used in the Lacy Little Lady Hat to come) in color 422 Tanzanite. You can make I-cord out of any yarn you have lying around.

1. Choose 2 double-pointed needles of the size you would normally use to knit with the yarn of your choice. Cast on 4 stitches.

2. Knit across.

3. Slide the stitches to the other end of the needle and knit again. To do this, pull the working yarn from the bottom of the work to the top from the back of the knitting.

4. Continue in this manner to the cord’s desired length. Every few rows you’ll want to tug on the developing cord to ensure that the back is closing up and not leaving a ladder of threads.

5. After knitting the cord, shape it into a flower or design of your choice and sew to the hat.
